One afternoon he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw no beast.

The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This prank laughed for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf did attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he returned to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the results of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
